Web development consulting

Software that keeps working after launch.

I help startups and small businesses build, rescue and modernise web applications — and add AI where it actually pays off. Over a decade of hands-on experience in backend systems, APIs and databases.

Services

What I can help with

Backend & API development

Robust services and integrations in PHP and Scala, built to be read, tested and maintained long after launch.

AI integration

Practical LLM features for your product — document processing, smart search, chat assistants and workflow automation — built with care for cost, privacy and reliability.

Legacy modernisation

Upgrading ageing PHP applications, untangling old codebases and moving them onto current, supported platforms without a risky big-bang rewrite.

Database design & performance

Schema design, query tuning and migrations for relational databases, so your data layer keeps up as you grow.

Technical advisory

Architecture reviews, code reviews and a second opinion on build-vs-buy decisions — including where AI genuinely helps and where it is just hype — for founders and teams without a senior engineer on hand.

Process

How we'll work together

  1. Intro call

A free 30-minute conversation about your goals, constraints and where things hurt.

  2. Proposal

A clear scope, timeline and price — fixed or hourly, whichever fits the work.

  3. Delivery

Short iterations with regular check-ins, working software early and no surprises.

  4. Handover

Documentation and knowledge transfer so your team owns what we built.

About

Ten-plus years of building for the web

I'm a web developer working mainly with PHP, Scala and relational databases. I've built software for tech startups, large corporations and small businesses — and co-founded a startup of my own, which taught me more about priorities, budgets and shipping than any job could.

That mix means I care about the business side as much as the code: what actually needs building, what can wait, and what will be cheapest to maintain over the next five years.

Today that includes AI. I use AI tools in my own day-to-day development and build LLM-powered features into real products — always with a clear view of what they cost, where they fail and how to keep your data safe.

I also volunteer as a mentor in the Mentoring Byte program, helping people take their first steps into software development.
